One of UFC’s most anticipated weekends took a big blow on Wednesday. After the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency found out that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones had violated UFC regulations, he was pulled from his fight scheduled for Saturday night.
For fans of UFC, losing Jon “Bones” Jones is a tough pill to swallow. He’s one of the most exciting fighters in the sport. A star-studded weekend that isn’t featuring him just doesn’t feel right. Jones was scheduled to fight Daniel Cormier.
Jones can still appeal the positive test. Since he’s never tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, he may have a decent case. He will be addressing the media on Thursday so it will be interesting to see what he has to say.
With Jones currently unable to fight, Brock Lesnar’s return from retirement match against Mark Hunt will be the main fight. While Jones’ departure will hurt, Lesnar’s fight should have enough excitement to hold fans over.
